Ilona Lay: War

War
The city throbs like a bursting abscess,
the culture’s corset breaks apart.
Cain awakens from his shallow slumber,
treachery sprouts in every house.
The eyes are dazzled by the burning words,
a bloody flood starts whipping at the world.
Death springs from the gaping mouths,
grief settles in the homeless hearts.
Tempests calve on the horizon,
a volcano groans in labor,
a blazing stallion rises from the depths.
Mouths open in a question with no answer,
the gate to heaven turns into a shroud
and mothers into ports without a shore.
